Matthew Leidecker, MA, BPC

I work primarily in person, but am also able to offer some online sessions. Please contact me to arrange a free introductory telephone conversation.
Exploring your difficulties in psychotherapy can help you to understand yourself and your life better. It can be effective in improving states of anxiety, depression, and other symptoms that affect everyday life, work and relationships.
I am an adult psychodynamic psychotherapist with experience working in the NHS, community organisations and private practice.
As a therapist, I have worked with adults from diverse backgrounds and with a wide range of needs. I am interested in the unique meaning of each person’s strengths and difficulties, and approach our work together with compassion, respect and curiosity.
My background is in human rights work, and I have a particular interest in trauma and vicarious trauma. I bring to my practice a unique understanding of work on complex and difficult issues within high-pressure environments, as well as the effects of traumatic experiences on people and organisations.
I trained in Intercultural Psychodynamic Psychotherapy at the Tavistock, and have worked in a variety of settings including the Adult Psychotherapy Department at St Pancras NHS Hospital and Headstrong Hackney. I also hold an MA in Human Rights from University College London and a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Keele University.
I am a full member of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC), the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists (TSP) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and adhere to their codes of ethics and practice.
You may be coming to therapy for the first time, or have experience of therapy and would like to explore your difficulties in more depth. You may be seeking therapy to help with a particular issue or recent crisis, such as bereavement or relationship breakdown. You may be unsure of what you need and would like to talk about what might be helpful.
My practice is conveniently located in the heart of Hackney, close to excellent transport links. I am just two minutes walk from both Hackney Downs and Hackney Central Overground stations.
